From Voice Lessons in Her 40s to Professional Singer in Her 50s

Even though I started learning to play piano at an early age, I never took my music skills seriously until I was offered a job singing at a resort in Bora Bora five years ago after the General Manager heard me singing Karaoke. I had just turned 50 when that happened.

I ended up with a gig that took me to Tahiti two to four times a year for the next five years. I am now writing music, producing and have my own band. We have recorded two CDs, and I’m working on the third now. My music is now available on iTunes, CD Baby and other download sites.

My band is called Irene and Her Latin Jazz Band and we play what I call So Cal Brazilian Jazz. Most of the members of my band are from Brazil and are fabulous musicians.

I didn’t even take singing lessons until I was in my late 40s. And I was just doing it for fun. But that decision to study singing was fateful for me and has sent my life in a totally different direction. This is all something I never would have predicted for myself. I consider myself the ultimate late bloomer. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.
