Quality, Not Quantity, Key to Music Practice

Today, I’d like to tell you some realities about practice.

Perhaps you think that practice is tedious, boring and takes more time than you have. Actually, it’s more a matter of quality practice than the amount of practice. Many years ago, when I was developing my skills, I had a frightening schedule. I was in college, taught 65 students a week, played out, was married and had a house and family. If you think that I had hours to sit around and practice…not so!

What I did do was to take advantage of very small amounts of time. Five minutes, three minutes, thirty seconds – as long as it was organized and concentrated, I progressed.  You would be surprised how much time we all have that somehow slips through our fingers. Of course, it has to be the right material, which was taught in a clear efficient manner. The material also has to lead you directly toward the goals that you have in music.

In my case, it was an even more pressing issue because I was committed to the life of a professional musician. Many don’t have that goal nor do they need that goal. This pursuit is for you. When was the last time that you did something for yourself?

Music is for you. You’ll never find a more satisfying outlet or a better way to spend your time.

So, pick your style, your instrument and your teacher. If you have trouble finding a teacher, we can work out a program for you on line.

Good luck and keep playing!!!

Note from the Publisher: If you are interested in online lessons with Chuck, please contact him via our Contact Us form and he will get back to you. I am currently working on developing a database of music teachers who focus on adult students, both in the U.S. and abroad. If you are a teacher and are interested in being listed in our database, please contact me through the Contact Us form and I will get back to you. Thanks.
