From Covering Songs to Creating Them

I sang in cover tunes bands for years. Five years ago I made the choice to record my original songs.

I learned how little I actually knew about just the music. Everything I sang before was predefined.  It was like painting by numbers because all I had to do was follow what the singer of the song had already laid down.

I’ve always owned all the basic instruments for a band (drums, bass, guitar, keyboards, etc.).  I kept everything on hand so band rehearsals could be done in my home without people having to drag their instruments around.  But, I’ve never played anything.  I left that to others because “I’m the singer.”

Now that I’ve gotten more deeply into the original music world, I’ve picked up the guitar, I’m playing around with the keyboards and exploring not just the music, but myself and my gifts. I still have a long way to go, but I am not afraid, and I am enjoying the journey and the beauty of music.

I am actually recording my own music for my own songs. It’s not the greatest music, but it’s a start!
