I couldn’t agree more! My story is eerily similar to Mario’s. I currently perform with just one band but we play 50-75 shows a year (in addition to our day jobs and family lives) and are having the time of our lives! It’s a lot of work (we drummers know this well) but it’s all worth it. I get much more exercise now than during the years I’d stopped playing and my wife said it shows! It’s nice to have a supportive family behind you too

I firmly believe that actively playing music is a true hedge against aging. While my non-musical peers are accepting their middle age as just something they can’t do anything about, and are looking the part now because it’s what they’re expected to do (and to be honest there’s a lot you can’t stop physically), I still feel like I’m twenty-one, and have the same basic outlook on life that I did back then.
