He May Be ‘Old,’ But He Still Rocks!

Cary C. Banks is the 59-year-old "old guy" featured in his song "Old Guy Rock."
My story is contained in the lyrics to the song “Old Guy Rock” from my new CD A Long Time Since It Rained:
Well I used to be a lean mean rockin’ machine; Way back in high school; Had a little band called the Psychedelic Figs; Man we thought we was cool; We played the Beatles the Stones the Kinks and the Who; Chuck Berry and the Dave Clark Five; We never realized, the way time flies; You turn around and 40 years has gone by; Now the hairs gettin’ thinner, the middle’s getting thicker; Mylanta is the drug of choice; Our GTO’s are Now SUV’s , but man we can still make noise
(Chorus)
We’re playin’ Old Guy Rock, yeah Old Guy Rock
Give me the beat boys, is sweeter as the years go by
Well I may be over the hill but that’s all right
I’m playin’ Old Guy Rock
Rockin’ till the day I die
Now my son’s got his own little rock and roll band
And they sure draw a crowd
Some kind of heavy metal somethin’ or other
They’re good but man they’re loud
Sometimes they ask me to sing ‘em a song
Or show ‘em a Hendrix riff
I tell ‘em ‘bout Woodstock and 8-track tapes
They laugh at what we once called hip
They’ve got the tattoos, the earrings, the glitz and the glam
Like the stars on the MTV
But they don’t realize, the way time flies
And just how soon “they’ll be”
(Chorus)
Playin’ Old Guy Rock, yeah Old Guy Rock
Give me the beat boys is sweeter as the years go by
Well I may be over the hill , but that’s all right
I’ll be rockin’ and rollin’, Down The other side
