This is true is many cases. But I have gained even more appreciation and excitement whenever I transcribe and analyze a tune and then learn it on the guitar.

I've always enjoyed baroque style music such as JS Bach but never really analyzed it. Lately I've been working on baroque improvisation and have been analyzing Bach's chord progressions, melodic patterns, modulations, etc and studying related material and videos. This has actually increased my appreciation and enjoyment of the genre and is allowing me to be creative by improvising in this style.
